Peace Wall

TOKYO PEACE WALL

The Peace Wall, originated from Picasso’s wall painting “War” and “Peace” that hangs in Vallauris in Southern France, and hemming on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, is a silent cry of peace where people from around the world excluding Japan have used fences or walls surrounding a construction site or school walls to promote peace.

The Tokyo Peace Wall will, for a limited time, be installed in the most visited spot in Japan―the Odaiba outside square in the costal district in Tokyo. In addition to the messages of love, peace, and no more war from many people from around the world, this plan will include artists representing Japan and display their work on the art panel. This is the world’s first of this immense size and caliber.
Since it will take place out doors, the actual work cannot be displayed. However, the latest on-demand technology is utilized for the art works, and the art will be printed on large waterproof paper using colors as close to the actual art. By doing so, people will now be able to appreciate the works that until now could be seen only indoors.

Odaiba, developed as a metropolitan oceanfront city, is Japan’s most visited tourist spot surpassing Tokyo Disneyland. The Venus Fort is a multi-complex re-creating medieval European city streets. The number of people visiting Odaiba surpassed that of Tokyo Disneyland, making Fuji TV and Tokyo Big Site the number one most visited complex. In addition, because the Seashore Park, and the Museum of Maritime Science is also located in Odaiba, the visitors consist of a wide range of ages from small children to the elderly.
The Peace Wall will be located in the circular piazza within the large complex, where it is said that about one million visitors.

After the world was shaken with the September 11 terrorist attacks, the world has lived in constant fear and threat. The situation as worsened even after the attacks, leaving a bitter taste after the disastrous war.
With the increase of heinous crimes, even Japan’s harmonious public safety has crumbled.
Putting aside the decisions of the politicians including the Prime Minister was correct or not, Japan is swallowed in the massive current, and is now a target of a terrorist attack. It is without any doubt that we Japanese people are put into a situation that anything can happen at any time.
The messages on the Peace Wall, will maybe stop even one crime, or be effective in inhibiting the terrorists or war in one way or another.
